Station History

1590am signed on August 18, 1948. In January 1955, the station moved to 950am. It was owned by Radio Indianapolis, Inc. as well as Grewe Enterprises Broadcasting at various points. WXLW(AM) was 5000w-D only from 1955 to 1986. In 1986, the FCC granted 117w-N with no change in pattern. We are not sure when DA-2 came into play. WXLW dropped religious programming on July 8, 2002 and flipped formats to Sports, picking up ESPN Radio Network programming and calling itself "ESPN 950." Pilgrim Communications, LLC sold WXLW in January 2005 to Jonathan and David Byrd's Raven Broadcasting, Inc. In December 2006, WXLW was off the air for a time due to a transmitter failure. The station fell silent on Sunday December 3, 2006. Studios formerly located at 54 Monument Circle, Suite 250, Indianapolis, IN 46204-3038. Sold by Raven Broadcasting, Inc. to Creative Data Management, Inc. in 2009. Flipped formats from sports (ESPN) to talk in 2012. Former sports format URL: http://www.xl950.com.
