Station History

WFMS signed on March 17, 1957. The call letters stand for "Williams F M Service" (Martin Risser Williams). A fire damaged the studio and knocked the station off the air for 57 hours on February 2, 1973. 1976 brought a format change: from beautiful music to country. WFMS moved into its current facility in November 1998. Susquehanna Radio Corp. sold all of their Indianapolis stations to Cumulus Media, Inc.. That $1.2 billion sale (which included 33 stations across the United States) closed on 9 May 2006. WFMS was licensed to Indianapolis, but changed its City of License to Fishers in late 2010 or early 2011.
