More Federal Communications Commission decisions from the 2003 translator window means another round of construction permit applications. Please read about several of those below.

Northeast

Friends of Christian Radio, Inc. applies to the FCC for a Construction Permit to build a translator on 99.1fm, licensed to Angola.

Federated Media Promotions Director Nikki Jasperson will end her role there, this coming Friday. Ms. Jasperson oversaw Promotions for N-T/WOWO and WOWO-FM (1190am, 92.3fm; both Fort Wayne), Country/WQHK (105.1fm, Huntertown), Hot AC/WMEE (97.3fm, Fort Wayne), ESPN affiliate Sports/WKJG (1380am, Fort Wayne) and Talking Stick Communications' FOX Sports affiliate Sports/WFGA (106.7fm, Hicksville, Ohio). Ms. Jasperson joined Federated Media four years ago, adding promotions oversight of WQHK, WMEE, WKJG and WFGA last August.

Northwest

Last week, Chesterton High School's Variety/WDSO (88.3fm, Duneland) returned after a summer hiatus. This school year, WDSO will broadcast 24/7. After school, the student DJs will do freeform radio until around 5pm. New programs this year will include short programs: Bird Note (bird sounds), Insight Daily (pop culture), On the Money (finance tips) and Sound Beat (the history of recorded sound; from the Syracuse University Arthur and Diane Belfer Audio Laboratory and Archive). 2013-2014 student staff includes: Co-PDs Nathan Babcock and Nick Moreno, Co-Music Directors Sarah Duron and Lily Jablonski, Assistant MD Austin Ballestero, News Director Brooke Sauter. Finally, managing WDSO are GM Matthew Waters and OM Michele Stipanovich.

On January 1, 2014, Brownfield Ag News will add Schurz Communications' Country/WKOA (105.3fm, Lafayette).

Eastcentral

Cumulus' Country/WMDH-FM (102.5fm, New Castle) rebrands as "Nash-FM" which is the branding Cumulus started using on some of its country music stations. In January, "Nash-FM" began rolling out nationwide. Here's the new WMDH-FM website.

Central

E.W. Scripps' ABC affiliate WRTV-TV (Channel 6, Indianapolis) added more weekend local news. Chris O'Malley at The Indianapolis Business Journal reports that last week, WRTV expanded their weekday morning "Daybreak" newscast by a half hour, starting at 4:30am. Also, "RTV6" returned their weekend morning newscast. "Good Morning Indiana" airs on Saturday from 6am until 8am and again from 9am until 10am. On Sunday, "Good Morning Indiana" airs from 6am until 7:30am. Former "RTV6" owner McGraw-Hill discontinued weekend news to save money. In a statement, WRTV VP/GM Larry Blackerby said, "Delivering fresh, relevant content for Hoosiers on TV, on RTV6 mobile apps, and on-line seven days a week, 24 hours a day is our top priority." Jade Hindmon and meteorologist Kyle Mounce anchor both Saturday and Sunday newscasts.

Kurt Wallace becomes station manager for Olivet Nazarene University's Religious/WHZN (88.3fm, New Whiteland). Also, Mr. Wallace becomes network PD for the "Shine.FM" format, broadcast on WHZN, WTMK (88.5fm, Wanatah). Based at Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Illinois, the Shine.FM flagship is WONU-FM.

Friends of Christian Radio, Inc. applies to the FCC for Construction Permits to build translators on 97.5fm, licensed to Delphi, 96.1fm, licensed to Lebanon 101.3fm, licensed to Fishers and 102.3fm, licensed to Sheridan.

Educational Media Foundation applies to the FCC for a Construction Permit to build a translator on 102.1fm, licensed to Noblesville.

Westcentral

Last Thursday, Emmis went live with translator W258BA (99.5fm, Terre Haute) from their tower at 918 Ohio St. W258BA simulcasts ESPN affiliate Sports/WFNF (1130am, Brazil).

On January 1, 2014, Brownfield Ag News will add six The Original Company-owned radio stations (in alphabetical order): Classic Rock/WBTO-FM (102.3fm, Petersburg), Classic Hits/WQTY (93.3fm, Linton), Country/WRCY (1590am, Mt. Vernon), AC/WREB (94.3fm, Greencastle), Country/WUZR (105.7fm, Bicknell) and Country/WWBL (106.5fm, Washington).

This Week in Indiana Radio History

September 10: In 1950, 1540am in Boonville signs on and remains WBNL. In 1993, 89.9fm in West Lafayette signs on and remains WHPL.

September 11: In 1953, Channel 50 in Evansville signs on as WEHT-TV, but is now on Channel 25. In 1962, 102.7fm in Terre Haute signs on as WPFR-FM. Today, it's WDWQ. In 1973: 97.9fm in Anderson signs on as WLHN-FM. Today, it's WGNR-FM. In 1997, 88.1fm in Spencerville, Ohio signs on as WBCJ and still is.

September 12: In 1954, 1600am in Peru signs on as WARU and still is, though now it simulcasts WARU-FM. In 1960: WBST signed on at 90.7fm (it's 92.1fm now) and still is WBST. Twenty years later on this same day, WBST becomes an NPR affiliate. In 1996, 95.9fm in Seelyville signs on as WTHC. Today, it's WXXR.

September 13: In 1965, high school radio station WBDG in Indianapolis signs on with partial broadcast schedule. In 1968, 95.3fm in Niles, Michigan signs on as WNIL-FM. Today, it's WTRC-FM.

September 14: In 1959, 92.3fm in Hammond signs on as WYCA. Today, it's WPWX. In 1962, 99.7fm in Frankfort signs on as WILO-FM. Today, it's WSHW. In 1963, 1560am in Rensselaer signs on as WRIN and still is. In 1970, two radio stations sign on: 91.1fm in Indianapolis signs on as WEDM and still is, while 93.3fm in Linton signs on as WBTO-FM. Today, it's WQTY.
